3PL (Third-Party Logistics)

An outsourced provider that executes logistics — transport, warehousing, fulfilment — on a company's behalf.

Also calledThird Party Logistics

A 3PL performs logistics functions a company chooses not to run itself: operating the fleet, running the warehouse, picking and packing orders, managing returns. The client keeps ownership of the goods and the customer relationship; the 3PL supplies the execution capability.

The appeal is variable cost and speed. A business entering a new region can use a 3PL's existing network immediately rather than building depots and hiring drivers. The cost is distance from your own operation — service quality, and increasingly the operational data, sit with the provider.

That data question is what pushes many companies to run their own platform above the 3PL rather than relying on the provider's reporting. Owning the visibility layer lets a shipper compare providers on the same basis and keeps the operating history when a contract changes hands.

A 30-minute working session, not a slide deck. Bring one lane and one month of fuel bills — we will show you what the platform makes of them.
