Part Load

The Indian market term for LTL — a consignment taking part of a vehicle rather than all of it.

Also calledPTLPart truck load

Part load is what LTL is called in most Indian transport markets. A booking office takes several part loads for the same general direction, holds them until the vehicle is economically full, and despatches.

That waiting period is the defining characteristic and the main customer complaint. A part load may sit at the booking office for a day or more until enough freight accumulates for the lane, so the quoted transit time is genuinely uncertain in a way FTL is not.

For the operator the discipline is knowing the break-even fill. Despatching too early wastes capacity; holding too long loses the customer. Fleets that track the accumulation curve per lane can set a departure threshold rather than deciding by feel each evening.
