Transporter ID
The 15-digit identifier a transporter uses on the e-Way Bill portal, whether or not they are GST-registered.
A Transporter ID identifies the carrier on an e-Way Bill. Where the transporter is registered under GST, the GSTIN serves as the Transporter ID. Where the transporter is not liable to register, they can enrol on the e-Way Bill portal and receive a 15-digit TRANSIN instead, which performs the same function.
The ID matters because it determines who can update the e-Way Bill. When a consignor generates an EWB and fills in the Transporter ID, that transporter gains the ability to complete Part-B with the vehicle number and to update it if the vehicle changes mid-transit. Omit the ID and the consignor has to make every update themselves.
For fleets carrying goods for many consignors, keeping the Transporter ID accurate across customer masters is quietly important. A wrong or missing ID is a common reason drivers get stuck at a checkpost unable to have Part-B corrected.
