GSTIN Verification
Checking that a customer's or vendor's GST number is valid and active before transacting.
A GSTIN is a 15-character identifier encoding the state code, the PAN of the entity, an entity number and a check digit. Its structure means an obviously malformed number can be rejected instantly, but structural validity does not prove the registration is active.
Verification against the GST system returns the legal name, trade name, registration status, taxpayer type and date of registration. For a transporter this matters at two points: onboarding a customer, where an inactive GSTIN will cause invoice and e-Way Bill failures later, and onboarding a vendor or market-vehicle supplier, where credit is at risk.
The most common practical failure is a registration that was valid at onboarding and has since been cancelled. Periodic re-verification of the active customer and vendor base catches this before it turns into a blocked e-Way Bill at a checkpost.
