Tyre Cost Per Km
Total tyre spend divided by distance covered — the only fair basis for comparing tyre brands.
Tyre cost per kilometre is total tyre expenditure, including retreads and repairs, divided by the distance run on those tyres. It exists because purchase price alone is a poor guide: a cheaper tyre that delivers substantially fewer kilometres and yields a casing unsuitable for retreading is more expensive in use.
Measuring it requires serial-level tracking. Each casing is followed through fitment, rotation, removal and retread, with the distance run in each position recorded. Without that, a fleet only knows what it spent on tyres in aggregate, which cannot be attributed to a brand or a position.
Position matters as much as brand. Steer, drive and trailer positions wear at different rates and fail in different ways, so the right comparison is by brand within position. A tyre that performs well on the trailer may be a poor choice on the drive axle.
