Temperature Excursion

An excursion is any departure from the specified temperature band, recorded with its magnitude and duration. Not every excursion condemns the cargo: many products tolerate a defined amount of time outside range, and the acceptance criteria are set by the product owner rather than the transporter.

This is why time-above-threshold matters more than a simple breach alert. A reading two degrees high for four minutes while a door is open is operationally normal; the same two degrees for four hours is a rejected consignment. Systems that alert on instantaneous readings alone generate noise that operators quickly learn to ignore.

Handling an excursion properly means alerting the driver while the load can still be saved, logging the event against the consignment, and notifying the customer proactively. A customer told about an excursion in transit will usually work with you; the same customer discovering it from their own probe at receipt will not.
